I think it's imported to have a focus, a niche or a particular subject or industry to hone knowledge. I've come to learn of my many blog-faux pas, but after reviewing, deleting and editing through the site, I've also discovered how much I've learned from having my own blog and how much my writing has improved -- both in technique and confidence. Blogging is blogging, and you're still developing your writing. It doesn't matter what the subject matter is- I think PR folks want to see how you get the message across. I don't limit my blog to PR, I also include other stuff and I've seen many other blogs do the same. Also, depending on the type of PR you want to go into, blogging about that stuff could be beneficial. As a fellow PR student, I don’t think blogging about other stuff than PR will hurt you.
